Penny Dine is a website where users can search for restaurant specials in their area. We were commissioned to build a database management back end and the facility to display restaurant data on the site. As part of this project we also converted an existing visual design to make it responsive.
The heart of this project is an extensive restaurant management plugin for creating and maintaining individual restaurant entries and specials, and also for bulk importation of data from a CSV file. States, cities, restaurants and their specials, as well as a search facility, are displayed on the site using a series of shortcodes, which are deployed with a second plugin. The system is designed to work concurrently for multiple countries but currently is only in use for the USA.
All forms are fully dynamic — meaning that validation, type-ahead lookups, submission, status messages, and everything else is done using background data requests without ever leaving the page.
